Job Description:

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering exciting opportunities for Dispensary Support Learners to join their team. The purpose of this learnership is to provide learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. Responsibilities:

As a Dispensary Support Learner, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and scheduled substances.
  • Supporting call centre scripts and handling patient service telephone calls.
  • Providing health information to individuals and promoting health awareness.
  • Assisting with chronic medication authorization, including HIV, AIDS, and oncology treatments.
  • Reporting low stock levels and stock discrepancies to the Dispensary Manager.
  • Receiving dispensary stock in accordance with the company’s SOP.
  • Helping with stock unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of the dispensary and OTC (over-the-counter) shelves.
  • Ensuring accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medications.
  • Ensuring that all medications are checked for accuracy and signed off by a registered pharmacist.
  • Following up with patients on script tracking reports and appointment reminders as directed by the Dispensary Manager.
  • Performing any additional duties as assigned by the Dispensary Manager.

Qualifications:

To be eligible for this learnership, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics (Higher Grade) and Physical Science or Life Science.
  • Must have achieved at least an average of 50% in your final school exams.

Experience:

No prior experience is required, but the following will be considered an advantage:

  • Familiarity with basic pharmaceutical or healthcare environments.
  • Any previous exposure to customer service or sales roles.

Skills:

Candidates should possess the following skills and competencies:

  • Proficiency in English and a second language (ability to read, write, and speak).
  • Excellent time management and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills with a focus on customer service and conflict management.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional conduct, trustworthiness, and honesty.
  • Computer literacy and numerical skills.
