The FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) Internship Programme 2024 provides opportunities for recent graduates and students enrolled in advanced degree programs to gain experience in working with an international organization dedicated to ending hunger and improving food security. Interns will support FAO’s mandate of achieving food security, promoting sustainable agriculture, and alleviating poverty.
Position Purpose
The internship program aims to provide selected candidates with practical exposure to FAO’s work and support its ongoing projects. Interns will assist in various departments, including agriculture, food systems, environmental conservation, and policy development, among others.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct research and gather relevant data for FAO projects and programs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of project initiatives.
- Support communication and outreach efforts, including the preparation of reports, newsletters, and presentations.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on sustainable agriculture and food security.
- Help in organizing workshops, conferences, and other events as required.
- Provide administrative and logistical support for ongoing FAO initiatives.
Education
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program or be a recent graduate (within the last two years).
- Fields of study: Agriculture, Environmental Science, Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or related areas.
Experience
- Previous internships, research experience, or project work related to FAO’s areas of focus (agriculture, sustainability, food security) is an asset but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential.
- Exposure to working in international development or with non-governmental organizations is preferred.
Skills
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within diverse teams.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced, international environment.
- Knowledge of languages other than English (such as French, Spanish, or Arabic) is an added advantage.
