Job Description
The Market Theatre Foundation is inviting applications for a Twelve-month YES4Youth Internship Programme, offering an opportunity for unemployed graduates to gain practical experience in the creative arts sector. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of R5000 and will collaborate with experienced professionals in various departments at the renowned Market Theatre Foundation.
Responsibilities
Interns will be expected to:
- Collaborate with colleagues in various creative fields.
- Gain hands-on experience and develop skills in their chosen field.
- Network with professionals and gain insights into future career opportunities in the arts.
- Perform duties specific to the internship role, as outlined below for each position.
Internship Opportunities and Duties
- Sound Technician Intern
- Reference No: 2024/11/ST
- Duties: Assist the technical production team with sound setup for events and productions. Operate analogue/digital mixing consoles, program sound cues, and ensure the smooth running of sound for live performances.
- Library Assistant Intern
- Reference No: 2024/11/LA
- Duties: Manage library resources, assist patrons, maintain library records, conduct audits, and oversee check-out processes for visual and performing arts materials.
- Lighting Intern
- Reference No: 2024/11/LIGI
- Duties: Assist with the setup, maintenance, and operation of lighting equipment for events, including hanging, focusing, and troubleshooting lights for shows and conferences.
- Technical Assistant Intern
- Reference No: 2024/11/TA
- Duties: Support technical operations and maintain equipment, ensuring smooth event execution and providing leadership in a fast-paced environment.
- Finance Intern
- Reference No: 2024/11/FIN
- Duties: Assist with accounts payable/receivable, budget entry, and financial reporting. Work on financial analysis and administrative tasks.
- Maintenance Intern
- Reference No: 2024/11/MI
- Duties: Assist with various maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, and perform regular equipment checks.
- Human Resources Intern
- Reference No: 2024/11/HR
- Duties: Assist with administrative HR tasks, including maintaining personnel files, preparing recruitment needs, and supporting employee-focused events.
- Administrator Intern
- Reference No: 2024/11/ADMN
- Duties: Provide front office management, handle reception services, manage inquiries, and perform general office administration tasks.
- Information Technology Intern
- Reference No: 2024/11/IT
- Duties: Handle IT administration, provide helpdesk support, and manage hardware/software installations and troubleshooting.
- Project Coordinator Intern
- Reference No: 2024/11/PC
- Duties: Assist with organizing and coordinating public programmes at the Windybrow Arts Centre. Help plan events, create schedules, and manage logistics.
Qualifications
- Sound Technician Intern: Degree or National Diploma in Sound Technology/Engineering, Performing Arts.
- Library Assistant Intern: Relevant qualification.
- Lighting Intern: Degree/National Diploma in Lighting Technology or relevant qualification.
- Technical Assistant Intern: Degree/National Diploma in Performing Arts or relevant Theatre qualifications.
- Finance Intern: Degree or National Diploma in BCom Accounting/Bachelor of Accounting or related field.
- Maintenance Intern: Knowledge of hardware tools, electrical systems, and basic mathematics.
- Human Resources Intern: Degree/National Diploma in Human Resource Management or related field.
- Administrator Intern: Diploma in Office Administration/Management & Technology or related field.
- Information Technology Intern: Diploma/IT Qualification or A+ N+ Qualification.
- Project Coordinator Intern: Degree/National Diploma in Communications, PR, Marketing, Journalism, Arts, or related field.
Experience
- No prior work experience required.
- Applicants should be unemployed and between the ages of 18 and 35.
- Applicants must not be studying full-time in 2025.
- Applicants should not have participated in or registered for the YES programme previously.
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well in teams and under pressure.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Basic technical and administrative skills specific to each internship role.
- Knowledge of relevant software (e.g., MS Office, specialized technical software for sound/lighting).
