Job Overview:
The Western Cape Department of Agriculture is excited to offer internship opportunities through its APFYD Matric Internship Programme. This initiative aims to provide recent matriculants with valuable work experience and exposure to various aspects of agricultural practices and administrative functions within the department. Position Purpose:
The purpose of this internship is to support the department’s operations while providing young individuals with an opportunity to build their career foundation in the agricultural sector. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals and gain insight into departmental processes, policies, and projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and organization of departmental documents and reports.
- Support the coordination and execution of agricultural outreach and educational programs.
- Participate in field visits and data collection for ongoing agricultural research and projects.
- Provide administrative support, including data entry, filing, and scheduling.
- Assist in organizing and attending departmental meetings and events.
- Engage in various departmental tasks as assigned by supervisors to gain a broad understanding of the department’s functions.
Education:
- Recent matriculants (Grade 12) with a strong academic record.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a background or interest in agriculture or related fields.
Experience:
- No prior work experience is required.
- Experience in a volunteer or community-based role is advantageous but not essential.
Skills:
- Basic understanding of agricultural concepts and practices.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
